Wellesley K7726 at Finningley aerodrome.

On 4th January 1938 this 76 Squadron aeroplane was waiting to take off from Finningley aerodrome to undertake a night flight when Wellesley K8527 taxied into it. Both aeroplanes sustained damage.

Wellesley K7726 was built to contract 435442/35 by Vickers Armstrong's Ltd. at Brooklands and was delivered to 76 Squadron at Finningley on 27th May 1937. As a result of the collision at Finningley on 4th January 1938 Cat.M/FA damage was the damage assessment and was probably repaired on site before it was sent to Vickers Armstrong's at Brooklands on 22nd April 1938 for modifications. It returned to 76 Squadron at Finningley on 14th September 1938. On 20th September 1939 it was flown to 36 M.U. at Sealand (Packing Depot) and was shipped to the Middle East. There it was initially taken on charge by 223 Squadron and damaged on 18th March 1940 at Khartoum. It was repaired on site and in June 1940 transferred to 14 Squadron at Port Sudan. It later served with 47 Squadron at Carthago. By February 1942 was with Conversion Flight Khartoum. In November 1942 it passed to 139 M.U. at Khartoum though later returned to C.F. Khartoum. It sustained Cat.A/FA damage there on 26th July 1943 and after a repair on site was used by 148 Squadron as a 'hack' before being returned to C.F. Khartoum. It was struck off charge on 12th July 1944.
