Hawker Audax K7390 at Catfoss aerodrome.

On 15th February 1938 this No.8 Flying Training School aeroplane ran onto soft ground at Catfoss aerodrome and tipped up onto its nose. It was slightly damaged. No.8 F.T.S. were probably at Catfoss as part of a gunnery and bombing training camp either at Catfoss or elsewhere further south and had landed at Catfoss to refuel; their regular base at the time was Montrose.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Audax K7390 was built to contract 437223/35 by A.V.Roe and Co.Ltd. at Chadderton and was delivered to No.1 A.S.U. at Waddington on 28th December 1936. On 5th January 1937 it was flown to No.3 A.S.U. at Sealand and was then taken on charge by No.8 F.T.S. at Montrose on 9th March 1937. On 28th September 1937 the undercarriage collapsed during a forced landing after engine failure. The location for this incident is not yet clear and a Cat.M/FA damage assessment saw it repaired on site and it returned to the unit. It sustained minor damage at Catfoss on 15th February 1938 with a Cat.M/FA damage assessment and another repair on site. On 14th November 1938 it was involved in a mid-air collision with Hart K5880 during formation flying though landed safely. Cat.M/FA damage was again the damage assessment and again it was repaired on site. On 13th January 1940 it was transferred to No.1 F.T.S. at Netheravon. On 11th October 1941 it was caught in a down draught on approach to land, it stalled and crashed at Shrewton. Cat.R/FA damage was the initial assessment and on 15th October 1941 it was collected by Air Dispatch for a repair in works but after a proper assessment it was struck off charge on 9th December 1941.
