Hawker Audax K7355 at Brough aerodrome.
I have not yet located any contemporary documentation that confirms the details for this incident. More modern publications state that on Sunday, 12th June 1938 this aeroplane made an approach to land at Brough aerodrome but then bounced on the eventual landing, then stalled and it struck the ground hard. The nose, undercarriage and starboard wing sustained damage. Audax K7355 was on the books of No.4 Elementary and Reserve Flying Training School who were based at Brough. The damage was not repaired and it was struck off charge soon after.
Pilot - Name unknown.
Audax K7355 was built to contract 437223/35 by A.V.Roe and Co.Ltd. at Chadderton and was initially taken on charge by No.6 F.T.S. at Netheravon on 14th September 1936. On 14th May 1937 it sustained repairable Cat.M/FA damage when it stalled and hit the ground causing the undercarriage to collapse, believed to have been near Netheravon. The damage was repaired on site and it was returned to 6 F.T.S. use. On 31st January 1938 it was flown to No.1 A.S.U. at Waddington. On 17th March 1938 it was taken on charge by No.4 E and R.F.T.S. at Brough. As a result of the damage sustained at Brough on 12th June 1938 Cat.W/FA damage was the assessment but it must have been considered for repair as it took until 4th September 1938 for it to be struck off charge. It had flown just over 338 hours in the air from new.
