Whitley K7225 at Leconfield aerodrome.

On 21st June 1938 this 51 Squadron aeroplane suffered the undercarriage collapsing during a night landing at Leconfield aerodrome. Why the aeroplane was at Leconfield is unclear when they were based at Linton on Ouse.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Whitley K7225 was built to contract 421118/35 by Armstrong Whitworth Ltd. at Baginton and was taken on charge by 51 Squadron at Boscombe Down on 3rd February 1938. 51 Squadron moved to Linton on Ouse on 20th April 1938. As a result of the incident at Leconfield on 21st June 1938 Cat.M/FA damage was the assessment that saw a repair on site. The aeroplane's AM Form 78 states that it was transferred to the Station Flight, Leconfield on 4th July 1938, probably after repair. It is possible that it went back to 51 Squadron after repair but the AM Form 78 does not state this. On 26th October 1939 it was taken on charge by 97 Squadron at Abingdon. On 8th November 1939 it undershot a landing at night at Abingdon and struck a house at St.Helen’s Without. Three were killed. Cat.W/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge.
