Heyford K4028 at Leconfield aerodrome.

On 1st September 1938 a taxying collision occurred at Leconfield aerodrome involving 97 Squadron Heyford K4028 and Leconfield Station Flight Magister L9525. Minor repairable damage resulted to both aeroplanes.

Heyford K4028 was built to contract 272083/33 by Handley Page Ltd and was initially allocated to Wessex Bombing Area on 18th September 1934. On 29th September 1934 it was taken on charge by 10 Squadron at Boscombe Down where it carried the unit code "-L". On 16th September 1935 it was transferred to 97 Squadron at Catfoss who then moved to Boscombe Down ten days later. 97 Squadron moved back to Leconfield on 7th January 1937. On 1st September 1938 it was slightly damaged at Leconfield that saw a Cat.M/FA damage assessment. It was repaired on site and returned to 97 Squadron. In February 1939 it was flown into storage at 19 M.U. at St.Athan before being struck off charge on 29th August 1939.
