Unidentified Anson at Barmston.
On Monday, 8th August 1938 two Ansons from 233 Squadron were making a long flight from Gosport to Thornaby and were expected to land at Thornaby at around 17.00hrs. They both reached the Hull area despite a problem with visibility owing to fog. While in the Bridlington area the fog became a major problem for the crews of both aeroplanes. One of the Ansons was force landed in a field at Hamilton Hill, Barmston at 18.00hrs without damage. The other, Anson K8831, appears to have suffered engine trouble having flown off the Yorkshire coast and unfortunately crashed into the North Sea with the loss of all four crew.
