Unidentified aeroplane forced landing at Redcar.

During Friday, 12th August 1938 this small aeroplane was flown from Maidstone, Kent north with the plan to land on a pre-planned landing site in the Redcar area. When the pilot arrived in the Redcar area in the evening the visibility became poor with mist being a problem. The pilot circled for some time to attempt to locate the landing site but the mist made this impossible, he then made a successful forced landing on the beach. The aeroplane was fitted with folding wings so they were folded in and it was hauled up and garaged on the promanade. A large crowd gathered around the aeroplane and two people fainted (my note: not sure why?).
