Avro Tutor K6101 at Sherburn in Elmet (?).
Information on this incident is lacking and I have not yet seen an AM Form 1180 accident card for the incident as yet. Suggested by other historians to have occurred on 9th July 1937 this aeroplane was flying over the area to the east of Leeds and in bad weather, owing to the weather the pilot attempted to land at Sherburn in Elmet aerodrome but struck a bank on the landing approach resulting in a crash. The aeroplane appears to have been in the care of the Station Flight, of RAF Duxford at the time of the mishap. I have been unable to confirm this incident with anything in the form of contemporary documentation to prove this incident existed should anyone be able to assist by supplying it. Why the aeroplane was so far north of Duxford is unclear. The bank the aeroplane is said to have struck may have been the railway embankment that existed close to the aerodrome.
Pilot - Name unknown.
