Hawker Hart K5812 near Thornaby aerodrome.

On 18th May 1937 this No.9 Flying Training School aircraft lost power in the region of Thornaby airfield while the pilot was undertaking a training flight. The pilot made a forced landing but overshot the selected field and collided with a hedge damaging the aircraft.

Hart K5812 was bbuilt to contract 410420/35 By Vickers Ltd at Weybridge and was delivered to 9 FTS on 17th March 1936. Following the accident detailed Cat.R/FA damage was recorded and it was repaired and returned to service. It was damaged again, with Cat.W/FA damage recorded, on 8th June 1940 in another crash, from that date it became an instructional airframe carrying the registration 2010M.
