On 8th January 1937 the pilot of this No.9 Flying Training School aircraft became lost on a navigation exercise from Thornaby to Wittering airfield, he made a forced landing on soft ground near Thorpe Willoughby and the aircraft overturned.

The pilot was possibly Arthur Leslie Rogers (866274 / 85714) and if so was probably born in Walsall in 1907.
Hart K5809 was built to contract 410420/35 by Vickers Ltd at Weybridge and was delivered to 9 F.T.S. on 13th March 1936. Following this incident on 8th January 1937 Cat.R/FA damage was recorded and it is believed to have been repaired and returned to service with to 9 F.T.S. It suffered another Cat.R/FA accident on 3rd March 1939, again it was repaired and then allocated to 30 MU on 18th Decemeber 1940 but was damaged on 7th December 1940 whilst still on charge with 9 FTS. It was finally struck off charge on 20th December 1940.
