Hawker Demon K3974 at Catterick aerodrome.
On 6th September 1937 this 41 Squadron aeroplane was being flown on a training flight when the pilot made an approach to land at Catterick that brought him over some trees. Just prior to touching down the aeroplane sideslipped, the pilot managed to regain control but it flappened out just over the aerodrome and then landed heavily. The heavy landing caused the undercarriage to collapse. The pilot was unacquainted with the local flying conditions in the Catterick area. He was a Canadian who had only just arrived in Yorkshire.
Pilot - Acting P/O William Haig Martyn RAF.
