Unidentified aeroplane near Cayton Bay.
On the morning of Monday, 25th January 1937 a large two-seater RAF aircraft force landed in a stubble field at the Filey side of Cayton Bay. Fog was in area at the time and this was put down for the reason for the landing. The aircraft was not damaged nor it's crew of two injured. A team from Catfoss aerodrome later arrived on the site and it took off in the afternoon when the fog lifted. I have not been able to identify the unit involved, it may have been part of a squadron using Catfoss for an armament training camp. Two weeks earlier a similar event occurred at Burton Fleming and may have involved the same unit also based at Catfoss.
