Hart K5814 at Thornaby aerodrome.

On 10th October 1936 this No.9 Flying Training School aircraft parked at Thornaby airfield when it was struck by Hart K5844. The collision damaged both aircraft, this aircraft was later repaired.

No crew.


Hart K5814 was built to contract 410420/35 by Vickers Ltd at Weybridge and was delivered to 9 FTS on 18th March 1936. It sustained Cat.R damage in the incident at Thornaby detailed above and was later repaired and returned to service. It suffered a second accident at Thornaby, Cat.R/FA again, on 31st March 1937. Following this repair it returned to service only to suffer another Cat.R/FA accident on 28th August 1940. Again it was repaired and then transferred to 1 FTS on 11th April 1941. Here it suffered another Cat.R/FA on 13th April 1941 after which it was delivered to Marshall's at Cambridge for repair on 18th April 1941. After repair it was sent to Odiham for dismantling and packing on 5th July 1941 where it was sent to the South African Air Force as "483" for 2 FTS on 12th August 1941, after which there is no further RAF record.
