Hawker Hind K5369 at Harrogate.

On Monday, 28th December 1936 this 139 Squadron aeroplane was being flown over the Harrogate area but the reason for the pilot being so far north from its Wyton base in Cambridgeshire is not known. It had taken off from Wyton at around 10.00hrs and by midday was over the Harrogate area. It was seen an area to the north of the town at a low altitude and then make a forced landing in a field near what was the County Rugby Ground, at High Harrogate without any damage but as it carried out a taxying run towards the end of the field a group of children ran toward it. They had been playing nearby and watched the landing. One of the boys ran directly in front of where the pilot was intending on taxying to so he was forced to brake hard to avoid hitting him. Unfortunately this resulted in the aeroplane stopping swiftly and it tipped up onto it's nose. The pilot was uninjured. The aeroplane appears to have been taken to Catterick aerodrome for repair.
