Avro Tutor K3400 at Thornaby aerodrome.

On 2nd September 1936 this aircraft was damaged at Thornaby after Audax K5252 crashed into it. The Tutor was thought to have been a visiting aircraft to Thornaby having been a Digby-based aircraft. It was later repaired.

Tutor K3400 was built to contract 195190/32 by A.V. Roe and was delivered to Kenley on 9th June 1934. It was transferred to 2 FTS at Digby on 3rd October 1934. Following this incident at Thornaby Cat.R/FA damage was recorded and it was repaired and returned to it's Unit. It was then transferred to ULAS on 27th July 1937 and then to 1 S. of T.T. on 20th September 1937. It was then moved to 6 MU on 28th June 1939 and then to CFS on 2nd February 1941. It suffered a Cat.R/FA accident on 10th February 1941 but details of this are not yet known and following repair it was returned to service only to suffer a final Cat.W/FA accident on 2nd January 1942. It was later struck off charge but the exact date is not known.
