Unidentified aeroplane near Fixby, Huddersfield.
During the evening of Thursday, 1st October 1936 this aeroplane was being flown from Sherburn in Elmet towards Huddersfield, and reasonably close to where the pilot lived, when the propeller broke away in the air at around 1,500 feet. The pilot managed to glide the aircraft and land at Jilley Royd Farm. Unfortunately the undercarriage broke further damaging the aeroplane. The propeller was found around a mile and a half away. The area around where this aeroplane force landed was open fields at the time but has all been built over with modern housing since the war. I have not yet been able to identify the aeroplane that was involved.
Pilot - Mr Cyril Fearnside Brooke. Of Woodside, Fartown, Huddersfield.
This pilot had constructed a home-built Flying Flea G-ADPP in 1935 and was later involved in local gliding.
