Unidentified Bulldog near Heptonstall.
On Thursday, 14th June 1934 this aeroplane ran out of fuel in the Hebden Bridge area on a flight between Cranwell and Catterick. The pilot force landed in a field in couple of miles north-west of Heptonstall without damage. The location given in newspaper reports states that site was near to "Bent Head" and "Dick Booth" farms (the latter renamed "Boothroyd"). While the newspaper reports I have located do not state as much it seems likely that the weather or visbility was poor for the pilot to have managed to drift so far off course. Owing to flying regulations at that time the aeroplane had to be dismantled on site and taken away by road. I have not yet identified the aeroplane involved. RAF College Cranwell had a number of Bulldogs in their establishment and it was probably one of theirs.
Pilot - Name unknown.
