Fairey Gordon J9821 at Catfoss aerodrome.

On 12th April 1933 Fairey Gordon J9171 was taxying at Catfoss aerodrome when it collided with a stationary Fairey Gordon J9821. Both aeroplanes were damaged. Both were on the books of No.1 Armament Training Camp, this was the unit that was based at Catfoss who undertook the training of other detached squadrons during their armament training courses at Catfoss.

This aeroplane was built as a Fairey IIIF to contract 933798/29 and was delivered to 35 Squadron at Bircham Newton on 19th February 1930. In July 1931 it was sent to the Aircraft Repair Section (A.R.S.) of the Home Aircraft Depot (H.A.D.) at Henlow for conversion to Gordon. With this complete it was flown to the Air Armament School (A.A.S.) at Eastchurch in February 1933. The date it was transferred to No.1 Armament Training Camp at Catfoss is not known. As a result of the mishap at Catfoss on 12th April 1933 Cat.M/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. The history of the aeroplane is somewhat vague hereafter. In March 1934 it was flown back to A.A.S. at Eastchurch though it later later returned to No.1 A.T.C. at Catfoss. In August 1936 it was transferred to 207 Squadron at Bircham Newton but the following month it was struck off charge.
