Fairey Gordon J9171 at Catfoss aerodrome.

On 12th April 1933 this aeroplane was taxying at Catfoss aerodrome when it collided with the stationary Fairey Gordon J9821. Both aeroplanes were damaged. Both were on the books of No.1 Armament Training Camp, this was the unit that was based at Catfoss who undertook the training of other detached squadrons during their armament training courses at Catfoss.

This aeroplane was built as a Fairey IIIF to contract 809923/27 and was delivered to the Home Aircraft Depot, at Henlow on 5th October 1928. On 24th July 1930 it moved to the Aircraft Repair Section (A.R.S.) of the H.A.D. at Henlow. On 10th November 1930 it was taken on charge by 35 Squadron at Bircham Newton. On 27th July 1932 it was returned to A.R.S. at H.A.D. Henlow for conversion to a Fairey Gordon. With this complete it was taken on charge by No.3 Armament Training Camp (A.T.C) at Sutton Bridge on 11th January 1933. Days later on 3rd February 1933 it was transferred to the Air Armament School (A.A.S.) at Eastchurch. In April 1933 it was transferred to No.1 Armament Training Camp (A.T.C.) at Catfoss. As a result of the mishap at Catfoss on 12th April 1933 Cat.M/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. The published history has nothing until 26th March 1936 when it was transferred to No.2 A.T.C. at North Coates but it was then struck off charge on 24th September 1936.
