Blackburn Bluebird G-AATO near Broomfleet.

On 4th August 1932 the pilot of this aircraft was undertaking a flight around the general area of Brough airfield when it dived into the ground from around 500 feet at 10.50hrs. The crash occurred in the region of Broomfleet and sadly the young pilot was killed. From newspaper reports it appears to have been on land between Broomfleet and Crabley Farm. The flight was his fifth made solo. While the aircraft was a civilian owned one it was being used for RAF Reserve training by No.23 Group Teserve Training Area at the time.

Pilot - P/O William Harvey Salt RAFO (S.No.?), aged 20, of Woodvale, Southport. Buried Liverpool Road Cemetery, Birkdale, Merseyside.

William Salt was granted a commission to the rank of P/O on probation on 6th July 1932 in the RAF Reserve. I have not yet found anything else about him.
