Wapiti J9101 at Brough aerodrome.

During March 1931 this 601 Squadron aeroplane was flown north from Hendon by a pilot from No.1 Air Defence of Great Britain (A.D.G.) but unfortunately the date is not yet known. Owing to a rough running engine the pilot landed at Brough for it to be looked at. With the fault corrected he attempted to take off from Brough to resume the flight but the port tyre burst, this caused the pilot to loose control and the aeroplane came to rest with tail in the air with the propeller broken. The aeroplane appears to have only required a replacement propeller fitting and after this was done it was flown back to Hendon.

Pilot - S/Ldr Arthur Cyril Bayley RAF (06209).

Back to yearly selection.
