Known gliding sites in 1930 / 1931, as given in the Gliding Yearbook 1931.
This is a list of gliding clubs and sites in use by December 1930, as given in the Gliding Yearbook 1931. While there are no precise details of many gliding mishaps it would be right to assume that mishaps occurred, damage was sustained and repairs were carried out frequently to gliders at all the gliding clubs. Unfortunately not all clubs sent reports to or had reports published the Sailplane and Glider magazine and I have yet to learn of another source of accurate information from the era. Incidents I am aware of are listed in their own webpages. Gliding was a very popular past-time in the early 1930s but the early interest of many club members faded resulting in some clubs folding or merging with others. As a result some of the gliders owned by one club in 1930 may later have been taken over and used by another club at a later date. As gliders were primary ones, most carried no BGA registration so tracing the history each specific one is difficult ninety years later.
