Blackburn Airedale N188 at Brough aerodrome.
The Blackburn Aircraft Company received a contract from the Air Ministry for two protoype Airedales. N188 was the first of these aeroplanes and appears to have suffered with problems withe a weak undercarriage so presumably it sustained undercarriage collapses at Brough (where Blackburns carried out their flight testing) prior to this subsequent mishap. On an unknown date in December 1925 this aeroplane due to be flown to the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment at Martlesham Heath for tests but on take off from Brough in a crosswind the aircraft sustained damage. Owing to the next prototype (N189) having a further modified undercarriage it seems likely the crosswind caused a swing which then saw the weaker undercarriage collapse on N188. Information is sparse regarding this incident. I have not yet located any contemporary information to refer to.
