Unidentified aeroplane in the Castleshaw area.

Source information regarding this incident is sparse. I have no information of my own to use and all shown here comes from other historians, all of whom have never 100% identified the aeroplane or dated the incident.

Believed to have been during May 1927 while flying between Tangmere and Sealand this 43 Squadron aeroplane flew into poor weather with reduced visibility. The pilot eventually became lost, it resulted in him descending and while he was attempting a forced landing the aeroplane struck a wall, said to have been in the Castleshaw area and on Millstone Edge, between Delph and Marsden. The eastern side of Millstone Edge is Close Moss moorland while the western side is fields surrounded by walls. Two dates are suggested; 1st May 1927 and 19th May 1927 have been quoted as the date of the incident but I have not been able to find any source information myself to confirm the date. Gloster Gamecock J7904 is quoted elsewhere as being as the identity of the aeroplane involved. I have been unable to locate a newspaper report for the incident which would have confirmed the date at the very least.

Pilot - F/O Bertram William Trelawny Hare RAF (81961).
