Unidentified Fairey IIIF (S1183 ?) near Catterick.
Information regarding this incident is sparse and I have no contemporary information to refer to. Said to have been on 3rd March 1928 this aeroplane was damaged in some form of flying accident at or near Catterick aerodrome. The aeroplane appears to have been badly damaged that saw it written off. The pilot was an RAF pilot serving on attachment with 446 Flight, in the Fleet Air Arm. 446 Flight were based at Leuchars.
446 Flight only appears to have had three Fairey IIIF’s on charge on 3rd March 1928. S1183 (that was taken to Fairey Aviation for reconstruction on 1st May 1928), S1188 (which was badly damaged on 12th march 1928 in a flying accident) and S1189 (that simply appears to have left 446 Flight in May 1928). S1183 seems the likely identity of the aeroplane damaged near Catterick.
Pilot - F/O Henry Alexander Mitchell Weir RAF (75490).
