Submarine Scout Zero SSZ.38 at Lowthorpe Mooring Out-Station.
On 28th June 1918 this airship appears to have sustained damage at Lowthorpe Mooring Out-Station possibly after flying into trees. SSZ38 was taken back to Howden and may still have been under repair either in or next to the sheds when a masive fire destroyed it on 16th August 1918.
The site at Lowthorpe, between Bridlington and Driffield, was a mooring out-station under control of RAF Howden. It was used by the parent station at Howden as purely a mooring facility to allow mooring to airships undertaking submarine spotting duties off the Yorkshire coast and to moor safely without having to return all the way to Howden. Howden had massive sheds to properly house the airships as well as mooring masts but the site at Lowthorpe only had mooring facilities.
