Sopwith T.1 Cuckoo N6973 near Selby.
On 31st August 1918 this aerplane was being flown from No.9 Aircraft Acceptance Park at Newcastle (Gosforth) to the Development Squadron, RNAS Gosport when it caught fire in the air. The pilot attempted to force land near Selby but it sideslipped and flew into some trees. The aeroplane was badly damaged though the pilot appears to have escaped uninjured. Where this crash occurred is not clear.
