On 17th June 1918 the pilot of this aeroplane lost control pulling out of a dive and it sideslipped into the ground near Marske. The pilot sustained injuries. The aeroplane was built by Ruston, Proctor and Co Ltd at Lincoln and served with No.2 Fighting School at Marske. Exactly where the accident occurred is not known.
Pilot - 2Lt Arthur Charles New RAF. Seriously injured.
Arthur new was born on 11th September 1899. He enlisted for RFC service in Summer 1917 being granted a commission to the rank of 2Lt in January 1918. In February 1918 he was posted to No.10 Training Squadron, he transferred to the RAF on formation in April 1918 then was posted to No.2 Fighting School at Marske on 6th June 1918. He appears to have been in hospital for some time following the accident on 17th June 1918. On 11th March 1920 he relinquished his commission on the grounds of ill health contracted on active service. He died in August 1968.
