Avro 504 D6271 in the Beverley area.

On 11th October 1918 this No.72 Training Squadron aeroplane was being flown on a training flight in the general area around Beverley aerodrome. At 10.00hrs the pilot attempted to make a vertical turn but lost control and it dived into the ground in the Beverley area. The pilot sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Brooklands Military VAD Hospital, Cottingham Road, Hull.

William Ryder would have been born in the USA or Canada and would have done initial pilot training there. He was posted from Canada to the UK in August 1918 and arrived at No.72 Training Squadron on 10th September 1918. His service mentions his hospitalisation following this flying accident in October 1918 but then makes no mention of what happened to him.
