Avro 504 D2019 at Catterick aerodrome.

On an unknown date during 1918 this aeroplane crashed at Catterick aerodrome. A photograph of the crashed aeroplane exists in an album made by another pilot (Captain Lally) at Catterick at the time, in which he notes "Lt Mackay - Catterick - Unhurt". Lt Mackay would be killed in a crash on 18th November 1918 but had served at Catterick with No.46 Training Squadron at the start of 1918 right through until it folded and No.49 Training Depot Station formed, he then remained with the unit until his death. The album's owner's service file does not mention he was ever with No.46 Training Squadron nor does it state when he arrived at Catterick but it can probably be assumed to have been after No.49 TDS formed in July 1918. Therefore this photograph was taken between July and November 1918.

Pilot - Lt Malcolm William Henry Mackay RAF. Uninjured.
