Airco DH.6 C6882 near Redcar.

On 25th June 1918 this 252 Squadron aeroplane suffered an engine failure in flight and then crashed while the pilot was attempting a force-landing at or near Redcar.

Airco DH.6 C6882 was built to a Royal Flying Corps contract by Savages Ltd but was supplied direct to No.2 (Northern) Marine Acceptance Depot at South Shields on 25th May 1918. On 5th June 1918 it was transferred to 510 Flight, of 252 Squadron based at Redcar. On 17th June 1918 a fitter fell into the rotating propeller and was injured. The aeroplane appears to have been undamaged. It sustained slight damage as a result of force landing after running out of fuel on 25th June 1918 and was later repaired. It was tranferred to 513 Flight, of 241 Squadron at Chickerell, Dorset where it remained until at least August 1918. It's ultimate fate is not known.
