Avro 504 C4421 / D4421 crashed in the South Yorkshire area.

The serial number recorded in the casualty card is unclear and either states C4421 or D4421 but unfortunately both were Avro 504's. On 28th July 1918 the pilot of this No.47 Training Deport Station became lost on a cross country training flight and the aeroplane's engine then failed before he could land. At 12.30hrs he was left to make an uncontrolled forced landing in a field but crashed into a fence. The pilot sustained injuries. No.47 T.D.S. was based at Doncaster but where this incident took place is not known, though for the pilot to be admitted to hospital in Sheffield it probably occurred in South Yorkshire.
