Avro 504 B8761 (probably) near Tadcaster aerodrome.

On 5th June 1918 this No.14 Training Squadron aeroplane was being flown at around at 200 feet (probably) close to Tadcaster aerodrome when the pilot put the aeroplane into a climbing left hand turn but the engine then failed, the speed dropped and it stalled. The pilot lost control and there was not enough height to recover it before it crashed. The pilot sustained injuries including a broken jaw.

Trevor Hawker was born on 7th June 1892 in London but emigrated to Anama, South Australia where his family ran stud. His grandfather was South Australia pioneer Sir George Charles Hawker. He served in and received a commisison the Royal Irish Rifles prior to transferring to the Royal Flying Corps in late-1915. He was granted a commission in the RFC in April 1916. He was posted to No.14 Squadron on 2nd May 1916 in Sinai, then days later joined No.30 Squadron, then served in India. He was Mentioned in Despatches for service in Mesopotamia on 15th August 1917 prior to returning to the UK. He married in Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland in September 1917. He was posted to No.14 Training Squadron at Tadcaster on 17th January 1918 and was probably an instructor at the unit. He returned to Australia in 1919 with his wife and eventually settled in Western Australia where he died in 1958.
