On 25th April 1918 this aeroplane was being flown from Redcar to Catterick on a transfer flight when the engine failed in mid-flight, the pilot force-landed at Thornaby but it was badly damaged.

Airco DH.6 B2728 was built by Airco for use by the RFC but it was delivered to RNAS Flying School Redcar on 17th December 1917 where it served until 31st March 1918 when the unit disbanded to reform as the Instructor School the next day, under RAF control. On an unknown date in April 1918 it was transferred to No.52 Reserve Training Squadron at Catterick and was en-route to Catterick when it crashed near Thornaby on 25th April 1918. It was almost certainly not repaired and would have been deleted from stock after assessment but when this was carried out is not known.
