Maurice Farman S.11 Shorthorn A6822 at Doncaster aerodrome.

On 17th February 1918 the pupil pilot of this No.49 Training Squadron aeroplane lost control while turning and failed to flatten out on landing Doncaster aerodrome resulting in a crash. The pilot had undertaken just twenty minutes solo flying prior to this incident occurring with inexperience being deemed to blame for the accident happening.

Ernest Wood was born on 27th March 1891 and served in the Middlesex Regiment prior to enlisting for Royal Flying Corps service in Autumn 1917. The injuries he sustained at Doncaster in February 1918 saw him hospitalised for some months. He was later disposed of back to his army unit in October 1919.
