B.E.2c A3143 (probably) at Ripon aerodrome.

On 20th July 1918 the pilot of this 76 Squadron aeroplane undertook a night flying exercise. Ground flares were lit to assist the pilot on landing but at 01.15hrs this aeroplane landed too close to the ground flare position. A member of aerodrome staff who was operating the flares put his head up too far as the aeroplane passed over while landing and was struck which unfortunately cut off one of his ears. The aeroplane appears to have gone on to land without damage. The casualty card does not state where this incident occurred but as 76 Squadron were based at Ripon I assume it happened there.

Pilot - Lt Frederick Herbert Wrenn RAF.

Ground Staff - Pte Richard Cooper RAF (67965). Injured. 19th Battalion, Royal Defence Corps.
