William Rutter appears to have initially served in the army before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps in October 1917. He then transferred to the RAF when it formed in April 1918. He was posted to No.46 Training Squadron on 10th June 1918 and then to No.49 T.D.S..

Arthur Wright joined the RFC in March 1917 possibly having previously served in the Royal Engineers. His service file appears to show that he rejoined the Royal Engineers in November 1918.
