Unidentified Avro 504 near Raskelf.

The pilot of this aeroplane was a No.38 Training Depot Station pilot who was based at Tadcaster. He appears to have been posted to Redcar to undertake training with North East Area Flying Instructor School and on 11th October 1918 he appears to have been flying himself from Tadcaster to Redcar when he had to make a forced landing at Raskelf. No injuries appear to have resulted as I cannot locate a casualty card in the RAF Museum's Vault archive. Whether the aeroplane was damaged is unknown and it's identity is unknown. The pilot's service file stated that he transferred to NEA FIS on 17th October 1918, then returned to No.38 T.D.S. on 7th November 1918 as a qualfied assistant instructor.

Pilot - Lt Cecil Howard Holcomb RAF.

Cecil Holcomb was born in Quebec, Canada and may well have been from Saint-Anne-de-Bellevue. He appears to have received a commission in the Royal Flying Corps on 14th March 1917 then served with No.1 Squadron in France. In January 1918 he was admitted to hospital and returned to England. On 1st April 1918 he transferred to the RAF when it formed and the RFC folded. He was repatriated on 15th August 1919 and transferred to the Unemployed List on 29th August 1919.
