Pilot - Probationary F/O Eric Hendry Scott Low RNAS.

Eric Low was born on 17th October 1897 in London. He enlisted for RNAS service and was granted a commission on 3rd December 1916. He trained at RNAS Redcar Flying School between 11th January 1917 and 2nd June 1917 being awarded a Royal Aero Club Aviators' Certificate (Cert.No.4655) on 21st April 1917 following training at Redcar. He was then posted to Cranwell but in July 1917 he stated to his commanding officer that he could not look down without feely dizzy though he believed the pilot did not have sufficient confidence to make a good pilot so his commission was terminated on 31st July 1917. He appears to have died in Bedford in 1956.
Avro 504 N6148 was built by The Sunbeam Motor Co. Ltd. at Wolverhampton and was delivered to RNAS Redcar by road transport on 8th March 1817. Here it was assembled, tested and accepted on 28th March 1917 with it then joined the Flying School. It suffered two minor accidents at Redcar on 21st May 1917 and on 5th July 1917 that saw repairs on site being made. On 8th September 1917 it suffered a third accident, it was initially deemed as being repairable but there is no record of this being done. When the assessor arrived at Redcar in December 1917 it was surveyed on 7th December 1917 and deleted from stock as "wrecked" on 14th December 1917.
