Bristol F.E.2b B408 near Knaresborough.

Over the course of the 19th and 20th July 1917 this aeroplane was due to be flown to join No.36 Home Defence Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, who were based at Cramlington, Northumberland. It had previously been at Farnborough so the delivery flight north would have taken some time. An overnight stop was made at Hay-a-Park, Knaresborough and at 07.45hrs on 20th July 1917 the pilot attempted to start the engine by swinging the propeller. Unfortunately the propeller kicked back and struck the pilot on the arm injuring him. The pilot was a 36 Squadron pilot.

Harold Leslie was from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Having served in the RFC he transferred to the RAF when it formed in April 1918. He was repatriated to Canada in April 1919 and was placed on the Unemployed list on 20th May 1919.
