On 8th September 1917 this RNAS Flying School aeroplane sustained damaged to the wings in an accident at Redcar aerodrome. No precise details are known.

Curtiss JN-4 8847 was built by Curtiss in Toronto, Canada and shipped to the UK arriving at AAP Hendon on 7th June 1916. Here it was assembled, tested and accepted on 15th June 1916 and issued to RNAS Cranwell on 15th July 1916. It was transferred to RNAS Redcar on 18th July 1916 and joined the RNAS Flying School. It was damaged at Redcar on 6th July 1917 and was repaired and returned to service only to suffer a further accident on 8th September 1917. It was initially considered for repair but this would not appear to have ever been done because it was surveyed on 7th December 1917 and deleted as 'wrecked' on 14th December 1917.
