B.E.2e 7205 near Copmanthorpe aerodrome.

On the night of 21st / 22nd August 1917 the Zeppelin L.41 airship bombed the Hull area. It came inland at 12.03hrs over Tunstall and departed out to sea at 01.40hrs. No.33 Home Defence Squadron and No.76 Home Defence Squadron, Royal Flying Corps sent up aeroplanes to attempt to intercept the Zeppelin and B.E.2e was one, it was a No.76 Squadron aeroplane and took off from Copmanthorpe aerodrome at 00.58hrs. During the flight the cockpit lighting failed. On return to Copmanthorpe at 03.05hrs the aeroplane undershot the landing and crashed. The pilot sustained head injuries and was admitted to Fulford Hospital, York.
