Avro 504c 3304 at Redcar aerodrome.

On 22nd January 1917 this RNAS Flying School aeroplane was badly damaged in a landing at Redcar aerodrome.

Bryant Bridge was the only son of Mr and Mrs H S Bridge, of Putney, London and was born in London on 9th December 1897. He was educated at St.Cyprian's College, Eastbourne, and Bradfield College, Berkshire. On leaving college he enlisted into the R.N.A.S., being granted a commission on 30th July 1916. He trained at RNAS Redcar Flying School between 28th October 1916 and 17th February 1917, being awarded a Royal Aero Club Aviators' Certificate (Cert.No.4566) on 5th February 1917 at Redcar. He was recorded as "missing" on 9th August 1917 while flying seaplane Short 184 N1099 on a patrol over the English Channel. He was twenty five years old and is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.


Avro 504 3304 was built by Brush E.E. Co. Ltd at Loughborough and was delivered directly to RNAS Redcar on 10th May 1916. It joined the RNAS Flying School. Following a ground accident on 21st December 1916 it was repaired and returned to service before suffering a second mishap on 22nd January 1917. Again it was repaired and returned to service only to suffer a final accident on 2nd March 1917. By April 1917 it was awaiting a deletion assessment and it was then deleted as being beyond economic repair on 4th May 1917.
