Avro 504 8594 was built by A V Rowe of Manchester and delivered to RNAS Whitley Bay by lorry on 29th December 1915 for coastal defence duties. It was tested there on 2nd January 1916 but rejected. This was later corrected and it was transferred to RNAS Redcar on 4th March 1916 where it was probably used for RNAS Home Defence Flight duties. Following a mishap at Redcar on 31st March 1916 it was considered for repair but this
took some time, it was returned to Redcar to serve with the RNAS Flying School in November 1916. It remained there until being deleted from stock on 30th March 1918.
