Avro 504A 7737 (probably) at Beverley aerodrome.

On 16th August 1916 the pilot of this No.36 Reserve Squadron aeroplane was undertaking his first solo training flight, while landing (probably) at the unit's home aerodrome of Beverley the pilot reduced the power to the engine twenty feet above the aerodrome. The aeroplane stalled and crashed which injured the pilot.

James Truscott was born on 5th April 1891 in Devon and joined the army, serving in the 9th Battalion, Devonshire Regiment at the start of the First World War. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps at the end of 1915 and was granted a commission on 25th March 1916 (with seniority of 28th December 1915), initially training as an observer. He left the RAF in December 1919 and returned to the Army, serving until June 1926. He rejoined the RAF at the start of the Second World War and appears to have served throughout. He died in December 1955.
