Curtiss JN-4 3440 was built by Curtiss in Toronto and was shipped to the UK. On arrival it was delivered to AAP at Hendon on 25th April 1916 where it was fitted with dual controls, tested and accepted on 1st May 1916. It was immediately flown to RNAS Flying School Chingford the same day. It was transferred to RNAS Redcar on 8th September 1916 and joined the RNAS Flying School. Following a ground accident on 21st December 1916 it was sent to Blackburn's in Leeds for repair (possibly flown to Leeds suggesting damage was minor). It returned to Redcar on 26th December 1916. It later suffered a second accident on 6th July 1917 and was deleted as deemed beyond economic repair on 8th September 1917.
