Blackburn Type 1 mono-plane at York.
During July 1914 the Blackburn Aeroplane Company had a site on York Knavesmire where some flying training took place as part of their flying school. A very brief mention has been located in newspapers that stated in the week prior to Friday, 31st July 1914 Mr Pickles damaged his Blackburn two seater mono-plane on the Knavesmire at York while making a sudden turn on the ground to avoid a collision with a cow. The date for the incident I would guess would be around the 28th July 1914. Mr Pickles was one of the Blackburn Aeroplane Company's test pilots.
Pilot - Mr Sydney Pickles.
