Ballooning landing near Baldersby.

During the morning of the 16th June 1911 the final day of The Grand Yorkshire Flower Show and Gala was held at Bootham Park, York. The "Pompadour" balloon that had made flights around the York area was given it's final outing at this event. After being filled the owner Auguste Gaudron and his assistant made a flight, with them they took up a young York boy for the flight. They took off at 17.30hrs and once released climbed considerably before catching an air current which blew the balloon in a northerly direction. It reached a height of around two thousand before the gas was released and it descended. At around 19.30hrs it landed near Baldersby but the landing was rough.
