Bleriot monoplane at Scarborough.

On Saturday, 11th July 1914 a well known display pilot began the first of eight days of flying in Scarborough that involved stunt flying, with his looping the loop performance. During the morning of Monday, 13th July 1914 he was givin a display involving looping the loop and after making a loop the engine of the aeroplane stopped. He was able to glide down and land on the South Bay beach below cliffs, suggesting it was on sand towards the southern end of the South Bay. The aeroplane was a Bleriot special made with re-enforced frames to withstand the forces of stunt flying.

Pilot - Mr Bentfield Hucks.
