On Saturday, 2nd January 1937 two aircraft were being flown from Glasgow to Redcar using a popular route used for ferrying aircraft at the time; flying up the east coast of England and calling in at airfields on the way to re-fuel. whilst over North Yorkshire visibility became bad and the pilots became lost. The aircraft circled the Harwood Dale area for some time in the morning locating a place to land. A landing was eventually made in a turnip field owned by Mr Charles Turner by one aircraft. Soon afterwards, at 13.00hrs, another landed, though neither were damaged. When the weather improved both aircraft took off without incident and flew in the direction of Redcar where it is assumed they landed without further hitch. Redcar was probably only a refuelling stop prior to an onward flight elsewhere. The identities of either aircraft is not known and the only information located was found in the local Scarborough newspaper which makes not mention of these facts.
Pilots - Names unknown.
These may have been 602 Squadron aircraft flying from Abbotsinch though their orb states that very little flying was done because of poor weather, or civilian ones flying from Renfrew.
